General Description of Position

The Materials Manager will manage and coordinate all material/warehouse activities, operations, and staff in support of manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on role, both administrative and physical, with work performed behind the desk and in the production yard.  The Materials Manager will be the primary person interfacing with the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for the inventory team. The Materials Manager will report to the Operations Director.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage the warehouses 
  • Maintain the warehouse’s physical conditions: 1) general cleanliness and 2) organization, layout and design in a way that will ensure maximum space utilization and protection of materials 
  • Supervise issuing materials to jobs 
  • Coordinate with production and monitor jobs in ERP to ensure jobs are not waiting for material 
  • Ensures materials are available when needed
  • Manage material flow 
  • Supervise the materials receiving process, ensuring timely and accurate receipts 
  • Ensures returned, rejected, and obsolete parts are processed correctly and timely
  • Manage periodic physical inventories and cycle counts 
  • Maintains strict inventory control 
  • Leads the regular physical inventory process and provides inventory reports
  • Reviews, analyzes, modifies, and implements efficient and effective department processes, policies, and procedures 
  • Enforces established safety guidelines; promotes a safe workplace 
  • Maintains accurate records and metrics; audits as necessary 
  • Identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement 
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all operating systems pertaining to the work area 
  • Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops department staff; manages schedules and workflow 
  • Assigns duties and monitors quality of work; assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations 
  • Provides day-to-day support, guidance, and oversight of subordinates; actively works to promote and recognize performance 
  • Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management 

Skills & Abilities

  • Six+ years related experience 
  • Strong inventory control skills 
  • Experience using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system 
  • Understand lean manufacturing principles 
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations best practices 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates 
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Basic competence in subordinates’ duties and tasks 
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills 
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow 
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees 
  • Proficient using Microsoft Suite and ERP systems 
  • Proven leadership and business acumen skills 
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels 
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions 
  • Bilingual skills a plus 
  • Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions 
  • Ability to perform the physical labor necessary 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
