Pioneering the Use of Container-Based Structures
What started as a small rental business grew in a bold, new direction for offsite modular construction. Now, we modify shipping containers into storage units, living spaces, workspaces, equipment enclosures, multi-story stadiums, and more.
The company began when Stephen and Brian started renting containers out of a spare bedroom in Stephen’s condo. The small team staged the containers in their friend’s front yard for $10 per container per month.
We hit a major milestone, breaking $1 million in revenue. We were becoming an established business!
We were invited to participate in this selective program which enabled fast-growing companies to reach the next level of success.
We created a one-of-a-kind 700-container city to assist US Air Force combat training at Cannon Air Force Base.
We made the Inc. 5000 list for the 6th year in a row, which placed us in an exclusive group of companies with a consistent track record of growth.
We sold our regionally dominant rental business to Pac-Van (now United Rentals) in order to solely focus on manufacturing container-based structures.
We spearheaded the Modular Building Institute’s container task force in an industry-wide effort. Our work with the task force led to the incorporation of shipping containers into the 2021 International Building Code for the first time.
We became the first in-house container structure manufacturer to receive an Evaluation Service Report (ESR) from the International Code Council (ICC), approving our structurally sound containers for use in buildings.
We earned California’s modular manufacturer certification and then our Texas certification shortly after. These two certifications became the first of many state approvals in the coming years.
We expanded our facility – doubling its size and tripling its production capacity – allowing us to create bigger projects faster than ever before.
It’s our mission to build a better world by pioneering the use of container-based structures. We aim to address some of society’s biggest problems, invest in our team, be environmental stewards, and create safe places for our customers and their communities.

It comes down to asking ourselves what exactly a shipping container is. On one hand, it’s a just a steel box; on the other, it’s an opportunity to build something new. The remarkable strength of its frame and the security of its corrugated walls can become the basis of everything from apartment complexes to pantry space for food banks. When a customer comes to us with a problem, we Think Inside the Box® and remember the incredible diversity of solutions offered by ISO containers.
