Mobile, Ground-Level Offices (GLO) vs. Office Trailers

Shipping container offices, also known as ground-level offices (GLO), portable offices, or jobsite offices, offer distinct advantages over traditional office trailers for construction sites, remote work locations, and temporary facilities. See how container offices outperform traditional trailers in safety, durability, and energy efficiency below.

Delivery & Permitting

These floor plans come from our extensive design library and are some of the most common layouts for a modified container repurposed for office spaces.

Delivery & Logistics

Falcon coordinates nationwide delivery using vetted, insured drivers and a range of transport options, including tilt-bed trucks, flatbeds, and step-decks, to ensure your modified container arrives safely and on schedule. We’ll guide you through every step so delivery day is predictable and straightforward.

Site readiness

Before delivery, your placement area should be flat, level, and compacted so the doors open smoothly and utilities drain correctly. A concrete slab, gravel pad, or other hard, level surface works well. Containers must be placed with all four corner castings supported, and the ground should allow enough clearance for safe maneuvering of the delivery truck or crane if necessary.

Access & placement

Your driver will need a clear path from the street to the final location, with adequate width for turning and enough overhead clearance for the truck and container. If a crane or forklift is required for placement (common with flatbed or step-deck deliveries), Falcon will advise you during scheduling.

Utility preparation

If your unit includes electrical or plumbing:

  • Electrical service should match your container’s required 208V/220V power and be installed by a licensed electrician. All units must be properly grounded with a 6-foot grounding rod.
  • Plumbing connections require a licensed plumber and typically involve a ¾-inch water inlet and a 3-inch black-water drainage line.

We’ll provide shop drawings and connection details so your local contractors can prepare before the unit arrives.

Permitting Support

Depending on your location and intended use, container-based structures may require building, electrical, mechanical, or other necessary permits. Falcon helps simplify this process by providing the documentation and support your local authority will expect.

What we provide
  • Stamped engineered drawings and structural details
  • Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) documentation
  • Guidance on applicable building codes and use classifications
  • Support coordinating submittals with your local permitting office

Because requirements vary widely by jurisdiction, from temporary use permits to full foundation inspections, we help you understand what’s needed early, reducing delays and keeping your project on track.

FAQs

What is a shipping container office?

A shipping container office is a ground-level, steel modular workspace built from ISO containers and delivered ready to use. Standard sizes (10’, 20’, 40’) fit 1-8 people with climate control, optional half-bath and custom layouts available. They come with quick-ship floor plans, nationwide delivery, full insulation and climate control, plus support for permitting.

Can container offices be used in extreme weather conditions?

Yes. Container offices perform exceptionally well in extreme weather. Their all-steel structure, tight thermal envelope, and high-quality insulation help maintain stable interior temperatures in intense heat, cold, wind, and storms. With climate control, they provide a durable, reliable workspace even in harsh industrial environments.

What site preparation is needed before container office delivery?

Container offices need a flat, compact, level surface, like a slab or gravel pad, to ensure doors work properly and plumbing drains correctly. Before delivery, confirm whether a foundation is required, schedule a licensed electrician and plumber for connections, and ensure safe access for placement and leveling.

Can I relocate my container office in the future?

Yes. Container offices are designed to be relocated. As long as the site is prepared and there’s access for a truck or forklift, your unit can be moved to a new location. If utilities were connected, a licensed electrician and plumber should safely disconnect them before transport. With proper planning, relocating a container office is straightforward and low-impact.

Do container offices meet local building codes or safety standards?

Yes, container offices can be built to meet local building codes and safety standards. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, but units can be engineered, inspected, and equipped with compliant electrical, HVAC, fire, and accessibility features. Many customers work with their local authorities and Falcon’s team to ensure the container meets all code and safety expectations for their site.
