Falcon Structures CEO Invited to Present at International Code Conference

Austin TX, October 24, 2019 – On Tuesday, October 22nd, Stephen Shang, CEO and Co-Founder of Falcon Structures, presented at the 2019 International Code Council Annual Conference. Shang took the stage in Las Vegas, Nevada alongside co-presenter Tom Hardiman, the Executive Director of the Modular Building Institute. Together, they spoke on the topic, “Are Shipping Containers Safe to Use in Building?” Their presentation marked the first time in the history of the conference that shipping containers were invited to join the building code conversation.
“I am grateful to the ICC for inviting us to present at their annual conference,” said Shang about his experience. “At Falcon Structures, we advocate for building with shipping containers safely and in accordance with the building code. Bringing this conversation to the ICC Annual Conference was an important step in continuing to inform code officials of the new building codes and guidelines available for using shipping containers as safe building elements."

About Falcon Structures
Founded in 2003, Falcon Structures repurposes steel shipping containers into AC462 compliant modules for container-based buildings and creates single container structures for living, working and storage. Falcon became the first in-house container structure manufacturer to receive an ESR, an Evaluation Service Report from the International Code Council indicating that they can provide structurally sound containers for use in buildings. Thanks in large part to the efforts of the Falcon’s co-founder, Stephen Shang, and the MBI’s container task force, ISO shipping containers will be incorporated into the 2021 International Building Code as permittable materials.
